While great oil is the key to efficient, healthy machines and vehicles, oil sampling can take you even further. By taking a close look at the oil in the machine, we can:

  • Optimise machine reliability, productivity and profitability, and make sure you have the right oil for the job
  • Reduce friction, wear, heat, energy and lubricant consumption
  • Check for improper machine setup and operator misuse
  • Confirm the most cost-efficient oil change intervals

As so much information can be gathered from the oil, sampling is by far the most cost-efficient form of pre-maintenance, and routine samples are advised to allow for a full history of the machine.

Requesting a sample couldn't be easier. Purchase the number of bottles needed, complete with labels and a pre-addressed package to reutrn them in. Simply fill and label the bottles, return them to us and we'll come back to you with an easy to understand report detailing what you need to act on. We test:

  • Appearance
  • Viscosity
  • Oil condition - presence of soot, metal, water etc
  • Soot - can indicate poor compustion, worn upper cylinders and rings
  • Fuel dilution - detects rich mixtures and faulty injectors
  • Dispersancy - the ability of the oil to disperse residues and prevent blockages
  • Ferrous Debris - checks for small and large magnetic particles and a study of wear particles, debris from worn components
  • Water - detects coolant leaks or contamination by fresh or sea water
  • TAN - a measure of corrosive acidic materials
  • TBN - A measure of reserve alkalinity to protect the crankcase from acidic combustion gases
  • Sulphation - a measure of deterioration of the oil additives by sulphuric acid contamination
  • Oxidation and Nitration - a measure of deterioration due to a reaction with air
  • Additive and Contamination Metals - elements added by the manufacturer and from dirt, soot and abrasive coolant residues respectively.
